Traditional Values & Ethics

I think it must be said that the traditional values and ethics as practiced in Freemasonry, are sacrosanct and in essence cannot be changed at all. If these values are changed or altered in any way, the meaning will also be changed and possibly diluted. It is my opinion that younger members can be attracted by these values and traditions as they represent stability, strength, honesty, and virtue; but just as importantly, brotherly love and comradery.

It is not so much that these values are old fashioned but are often ignored or absorbed in modern society. In our organization, it is our aim to be completely involved in the community in which we reside, not only in charitable drives but in the general improvement of the environment.

I’ve frequently seen in the local newspapers that people of all ages and diverse backgrounds are indeed involved in the upkeep of the community in which they reside; so why not in Freemasonry. It has the added value of personal growth through the very values and traditions we hold dear.

The beauty of Freemasonry is the fact that it is appealing to young and old as well as any race, ethnicity, or religion. Where else can you sit in harmony and brotherly love among men of vastly differing backgrounds?

Our problem is that we are notoriously bad at communicating our traditional values and ethics to the public at large and specifically at men of all ages and races. Obviously, we are aiming to recruit younger members because that is where the future is assured, but all ages are welcome.

We have an active social life in our structures, which is instrumental in making our brotherhood more attractive to all, including our ladies.
